Ben Simmons will travel with his team to Philadelphia but will not play

Ben Simmons will not play in Thursday’s Nets-76ers game but is expected to make the trip to Philadelphia and join the Nets on the bench inside the Wells Fargo Center, sources said. This will be Simmons’ first time in his old arena for a game since June 20, 2021, when the 76ers lost in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals to Atlanta. Simmons requested a trade from Philadelphia during the offseason, and in October the three-time All-Star informed the 76ers that he was not mentally ready to play for the organization.

The Boston story tonight is over. The Nets fell to Boston in a game where they really could have used Ben Simmons. His status remains unknown as the clock continues to tick and the team continues to fall in the standings: theathletic.com/3166330/2022/0…7:01 p.m.

Ky Carlin @Ky_Carlin
The Nets obviously have a lot of problems, but I can’t help but think that once Ben Simmons is on the floor for them, which is a big if at this point, he will fix a lot of their mistakes. Especially as a defender and playmaker. – 4:00 p.m.

Ben Simmons would be huge right now… – 3:31 p.m.

Steve Nash admits it might be hard to get one-player Ben Simmons to adapt without a ton of time. But because of all the things Ben does well, Nash doesn’t think it’s going to be an overly mechanical process with square pegs and round holes.

Shams Charania: Ben Simmons won’t play in the Nets-76ers on Thursday – but is expected to make the return trip to Philadelphia and join the team on the bench inside the Wells Fargo Center, sources say. Continued: -via Twitter @ShamsCharania / March 7, 2022

Danny Green: Now shall we shake hands to start? Probably not. First of all, I would be very surprised if he even plays in this game. I don’t know where his health is mentally, physically, I know he had other issues, and we all know he doesn’t like playing in Philadelphia. If he plays in this game, I would be very surprised. But let’s say it happens, I see it as a very hectic, playoff-like atmosphere and environment, where it can be very difficult for him. I don’t have any grudges against the guy, I don’t hate him, I don’t like him, it’s just me, whatever. I waste more energy trying to go out of my way not to like him, or trying to go out of my way to hate him or do things to him. If he comes and shows love, I’ll say what’s up, that’s the kind of deal I’m on. I’m not the type of guy to not say what’s wrong with people who say what’s wrong with me. -via Philly Voice / February 23, 2022
