Jeep Meridian at Triumph Tiger Sport 660: cars and motorcycles to debut next week

Jeep India is ready to roll in its latest three-row Meridian SUV on March 29. On the same day, Triumph Motorcycles will launch its entry-level Tiger model in India.

The last week of the current fiscal year is expected to see at least two new vehicles unveiled or launched in India. As Jeep India prepares to launch its three-row, seven-seater Meridian SUV next week, Triumph Motorcycle is ready to roll in the 2022 Tiger Sport 660 in Indian markets. There could also be a few surprises as more brands are expected to line up their new models for launch or unveil soon.

2022 Jeep Meridian SUV

Jeep’s next premium Meridian SUV will be officially released on March 29. Likely to be launched in the first half of this year, the SUV is expected to be an Indian-made SUV with the aim of grabbing more market share in the segment. Jeep has already teased the SUV in camouflage which shows off some design traits inspired by its Compass compact SUV.

Jeep Meridian SUV is likely to get the iconic seven-slat grille, LED headlights, big bumper with integrated LED daytime running lights, LED fog lights, body cladding, integrated roof rails , a panoramic sunroof, horizontally positioned LED taillights, rear wiper and washer, integrated rear spoiler. The SUV is expected to run on 17-inch alloy wheels with an option of 18-inch alloy wheels as well.

Inside the cabin, the Jeep Meridian is likely to get a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Jeep’s U-Connect. It would offer features such as remote controls, geolocation, OTA updates, towing information, etc. Rear-row occupants should have individual AC vents and USB ports with fast-charging capability. The front seats should have a ventilation function.

Jeep Meridian would come with six airbags, 360 degree camera, power tailgate, ABS with EBD, ESC, electronic parking brake, Isofix child seat anchors, traction control, rear view camera and sensors, hill start assist, defoggers safety devices as standard.

Under the hood, the Jeep Meridian SUV is likely to get a 2.0-liter multi-jet diesel engine, which also powers the Compass SUV. It is capable of developing a peak power of 170 hp and a torque of 350 Nm. Jeep could also offer a larger naturally aspirated 2.4-liter four-cylinder Tigershark diesel engine used by Chrysler. It can produce 184 hp of power and 243 Nm of torque. The engines are likely to be mated to a six-speed manual gearbox or a nine-speed automatic.

Expect the price of the Jeep Meridian SUV to be between 25,000,000 and $35 million range. The premium SUV will face rivals such as Toyota Fortuner, MG Gloster and Skoda Kodiaq.

Triumph Motorcycles India will launch the 2022 Tiger Sport 660 on the same day that Jeep officially unveils the new Meridian SUV. This will be Triumph’s new entry-level model in the Tiger family. The two-wheeler manufacturer opened reservations for the Tiger Sport 660 last December for the amount of 50,000.

Triumph Tiger Sport 660 made its world debut in October last year. It features a sporty look enhanced by LED headlights as well as a modern Bluetooth-enabled TFT instrument console. It also has two driving modes – Road and Rain, switchable traction control and ABS.

In global markets, the bike is available in three two-tone color combinations, including Lucerne Blue and Sapphire Black, Korosi Red and Graphite, and a minimalist Graphite and Black option. All three colors are also expected to be offered in India.

The Triumph Tiger Sport 660 is expected to be powered by a 660cc three-cylinder engine which was carried over from the Trident. It is capable of producing 81 hp of power and 64 Nm of peak torque. The engine is mated to a six-speed gearbox and an optional quick up/down shifter.

When it launches, the Triumph Tiger Sport 660 will go up against models like the Kawasaki Versys 650 and Suzuki V-Storm 650 XT.
