Pandemic travel news: The world's largest cruise ship is about to set sail

(CNN) — Carnival celebrations are taking place around the world ahead of Mardi Gras, and the world’s largest cruise ship is about to set sail. But travel is also impacted by Covid restrictions and the invasion of Ukraine.

Here are CNN Travel’s biggest stories this week.

The biggest, tallest and tallest in the world

The holiday season is back

For centuries, Mardi Gras – which this year falls on March 1 – has been central to the carnival season in Christian countries around the world. But what about 2022?

The best of sun, sand and surf

Restrictions and travel impacted

At the time of writing, Ukrainian airspace is closed following the Russian invasion. In what is a rapidly changing situation, here is what we know so far on how travel to Eastern Europe and Russia is affected.
As for Covid restrictions, new additions to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s growing list of high-risk destinations include Iran, Brunei, Bhutan and a multicultural asian favorite.
In the meantime, from 1 March, the EU will advise its Member States to lift bans on non-essential travel by vaccinated passengers coming from “third countries”, i.e. outside the European bloc.
