Every month hundreds of galleries add newly available works by thousands of artists to the Artnet gallery network – and every week we shine the spotlight on an artist you should know. See what we have in store and inquire for more with just a click.

About the artist: Better known by his pseudonym, “The Fresh Prince of Street Art”, Skyler Gray is considered by many to be a Pop-meets-graffiti art prodigy. At just 22 years old, Gray has climbed the ranks of the street art scene since his teenage years with works that reimagine celebrities, cartoon characters and iconic symbols of luxury in vibrant recontextualizations. Now the artist debuts a new series of works in “Contemporary Pop Classics», his new personal exhibition at the Avant Gallery West Palm Beach. The exhibition coincides with the gallery’s participation in the 2022 Palm Beach Modern and Contemporary Art Fairwhere his works will also be exhibited.

Why we love it: Comprising works on canvas and resin sculptures, the exhibition immerses viewers in the dizzying and energetic world of pop culture and art history references. Gray quotes Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat, whose portraits appear on the show, but we can also see sparks of Murakami and KAWS; Mark Rothko’s Color Field works; and pages from DC comics. Grey’s resin and fiberglass sculptures, on the other hand, translate this characteristic vision into three dimensions. Here, Grey’s cast of protagonists ranges from cartoon icons like Mickey Mouse, Pinocchio and Fat Albert to celebrities like Amy Winehouse. Gray confuses these images with high-end luxury logos such as those belonging to Hermès at Chanel.

According to the Artist: “I am delighted to work in the new [media] and bring my paintings to life in 3D. I will be debuting a series of six Mickey Largerfeld sculptures in color and resin and fiberglass measuring three feet tall. Additionally, I brought to life a four-foot-tall Chanel pearl-inspired box sculpture that bears the image of Olive Oyl portrayed as Coco Chanel. Palm Beach natives and visitors alike will be in for a ride of visual delight as they visit the Avant Gallery, as well as the booth at the Palm Beach Art Fair. At the same time, my work will also be included as part of an exhibition at the Norton Museum and auctioned at Sotheby’s‘s, so I’m super grateful for all this synchronicity happening at the same time.
